Carver Select Board presents life-saving awards to 19 first responders

CARVER — December 10, 2025 — Carver honors 19 first responders for saving three cardiac patients between June and October 2025. The Carver Select Board convened December 10 for a ceremony in which Police Chief Mark Duffly and EMS Chief Mike Ryan presented life-saving awards and CPR pins to officers, paramedics, and EMTs involved in three separate cardiac calls — a residential cardiac arrest on June 26, a collapse at a Main Street business on September 28, and a patron emergency at King Richard's Faire on October 18. In each case, police arrived first, initiated CPR and applied an AED, then transferred care to EMS crews who achieved return of spontaneous circulation before or upon hospital arrival. State Senator Kelly Dooner and state Representative John Gasky attended and offered remarks; Dooner noted that first responders' daily work "often doesn't get the credit that it deserves." Four personnel — Paramedic Jacqueline Giroux, Paramedic Jim Wilson, Operations Officer Rick Cates, and Officer Christopher Mahoney — were recognized for their roles in two of the three incidents each.
