Carver Approves Reduced Early Voting Hours for Election
Select Board · Meeting of September 22, 2026
Carver trims early voting hours and pumps the brakes on a $12 million EMS station. Town Clerk Cari Dayhill said poll-worker shortages, not cost, drove a request to cut the first week of early voting from 82 to 73 hours before the November 3 election, citing just 193 voters over 41 hours in the September primary. EMS Chief Mike Ryan told the Select Board he "will not stand in front of a room at a town meeting asking residents to pay a debt exclusion" for the roughly $12 million ambulance station, backing Vice Chair Dan Ryan's push for a dedicated building stabilization fund instead.
The board unanimously approved $3,284.10 in opioid-settlement funds for protective gloves but tabled a $50,000 utility vehicle and $25,000 ultrasound system, $75,000 combined, until Town Counsel confirms compliance with the settlement, which holds $265,939.92. Separately, engineer Bruce Askew reported PFAS and 1,4-dioxane from the old North Carver landfill remain contained near Plymouth Street and Captain Perkins Way.
