Carver Select Board Approves Dozens of Eversource Poles, Defers Three Pending Site Disputes

CARVER — December 4, 2025 — Carver Select Board approves most Eversource utility poles across five hearings, defers three over resident objections. Working through petitions affecting Meadow Street, Polk Point Road, Tremont Street, South Main Street, Main Street, Bosdick Road, Beaver Dam Road, and West Street, the board gave unanimous approval to the bulk of a series of new mid-span and joint-owned poles that Eversource community relations representative Anthony Valu tied to 38 active or proposed solar farms in Carver and a broader 760-pole, six-to-eight-month infrastructure upgrade. Two Tremont Street poles were continued to December 16 — one after a condominium abutter complex received notice at a wrong address, one after resident Ryan Kelly of 137 Tremont Street told the board a proposed pole "would go right smack in the middle" of a wraparound driveway used by police, delivery vehicles, and the public. A third pole, on South Main Street, was continued after Sharon Churchill of 41 South Main Street said the placement could block a scripture board she has maintained roadside for 37 years. Select Board member Richard Carter renewed calls for certified mail with green-card return receipts for all abutter notifications, calling the repeated failures unacceptable, and the board agreed to add the policy formally to the December 16 agenda. The board also learned the town faces roughly $1.5 million of an estimated $3 million Gateway Health Group deficit, with Town Administrator Glenn Cannon set to brief the Insurance Advisory Committee on December 8.
