Carver Select Board Continues All Four Eversource Pole Hearings to October 21

CARVER — September 16, 2025 — Carver Select Board continues all four Eversource pole hearings and advances a $500,000 regional landfill sale to voters. Residents Eric and Amy Jermaine of 196 Main Street halted approval of eight proposed mid-span poles on South Main and Main streets with a photographic presentation showing vehicles completely obscured by a mock pole placed at their driveway on 50-mile-per-hour Route 58, prompting the board to continue all four Eversource hearings — covering more than 30 poles across four roads — to October 21 and to establish new standard procedures requiring town staff to verify that all proposed pole locations are staked before future hearings proceed and the tree warden to review every corridor. In separate action, the board voted unanimously to place two special town meeting articles on the October 7 warrant endorsing the planned sale of the Carver-Marion-Wareham Regional Refuse Disposal District to Wareham; Select Board member Dan Cotter outlined negotiated terms that would yield Carver approximately $500,000 and guarantee residents recycling access for 20 years at a markup capped at 12 percent above Wareham resident rates, down from the 15 percent Wareham originally sought. The board also heard a presentation from Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School officials on a proposed $289 million building project that would cost Carver an estimated $26.3 million and add an estimated 62 cents per thousand dollars of assessed value to the average homeowner's tax bill ahead of a district-wide vote on November 18.
