Carver Conservation Commission Continues Cranberry Road Hearing, Demands Tree Plan

CARVER — April 1, 2026 — Carver Conservation Commission continues Cranberry Road hearing over tree-removal concerns in wetlands buffer. The three-member commission — short its chair, who was on vacation, and a second member who has left the panel — voted 3-0 at its April 1 meeting to postpone action on a notice of intent filed by Marcus Baptiste of Southbrook Development, Inc., for a proposed single-family home on Lot 3, Cranberry Road, after members said they could not determine from the staked site how many mature pitch pines and other trees within the 100-foot buffer zone would be removed during grading. Engineer William Connolly of Zenith Consulting Engineers told the commission the house, septic field, and driveway all fall outside the buffer, but acknowledged that the full extent of tree removal "is hard to say until they start actually taking down trees." Abutter Glenya Moakley told the commission that well-drilling equipment had been on site since approximately March 14, four days before she received her certified abutter notice, and described three wells in various stages of completion across the adjacent lots. The commission scheduled a joint site visit with the applicant for the week of April 20 and continued the hearing to May 6. The panel also voted 3-0 to issue a certificate of compliance for a 2021 deck permit at 67 Crystal Lake Drive and approved an order of conditions for a revised Rochester Road, Lot 2 project that had reduced its buffer-zone building footprint from 45 percent to roughly 28 percent of the total structure.
