Carver Conservation Commission Approves Tree Removal, Patio Project Unanimously

CARVER — September 17, 2025 — Carver Conservation Commission clears two residential projects in brief unanimous session. The commission voted unanimously Wednesday to allow removal of a mature white pine tree at 57 Crystal Lake Drive, after resident Lorraine Rogers said her homeowner's insurance carrier issued a non-renewal notice citing trees overhanging her roof. The tree, located roughly 45 to 50 feet from the edge of a pond, has a crown weighted heavily toward the house, and the commission's agent said it represented a legitimate safety hazard. The board also issued a negative determination — clearing the project from wetlands jurisdiction — for a 14-by-15-foot mortared stone patio and adjacent fire pit at 104 South Main Street, filed by Kristen Mab; the agent confirmed the project falls outside Carver's bylaw 65-foot no-disturb buffer around an upland cranberry bog and is governed only by the local bylaw, not the state Wetlands Protection Act.
