CARVER — The Carver School Committee voted unanimously to recommend a town meeting article cutting annual transfers to the middle high school stabilization fund to $50,000 a year. The fund, currently holding $1,309,526, was previously fed by one-third of solar pilot revenue under a 2020 town meeting vote; officials said that formula now outpaces actual need since a feasibility study is likely 10 to 15 years away. At $50,000 annually, the fund would reach a $2 million target in about 14 years.
A school finance representative cited MSBA data showing the agency typically covers 30 to 80 percent of project costs, with feasibility costs for comparable schools running $3 million to $4 million. Member Bill Cullum questioned the shift from a year-by-year appropriation approach discussed earlier in capital planning. The committee also accepted a $21,550 state health grant, $2,000 in Carver Lions Club donations, and the FY24 audit report, which found the district in "strong financial compliance" with two minor notes.
