Carver School Committee splits 2-2 on facilities fee changes
School Committee · Meeting of September 14, 2026
Carver School Committee honors fire department, splits 2-2 on facilities fee overhaul. The committee approved $358,536 in federal grants, including a $125,000 Drug-Free Communities Grant and $189,910 in Title I funding, and adopted a first-ever coaches' handbook developed by Athletic Director Kelsey Kincade. Crusader Athletic Booster Club board member Melissa Eakins Ryan announced an $80,000 campaign for a new middle-high school weight room.
The board tied 2-2 on facilities-fee revisions after member Bill Cullum objected that fellow member Jackie Lake, who also sits on the town Recreation Committee, had brought the changes forward, saying it "spells conflict." The policy was tabled pending written input from another Recreation Committee member. The committee also struck all references permitting prone physical restraints from its student-restraint policy and adopted a new teen dating violence policy required by a 2010 state law Carver had never implemented.
