School Committee · Meeting of October 5, 2026
Carver School Committee adopted a new policy restricting police civil-enforcement actions on school grounds and advanced a warrant article for a special town meeting. The ACL policy implements the state's Protect Act, signed August 5, which bars civil arrests at schools absent a judicial warrant; district staff said local police raised no objections. The committee also voted to seek Select Board approval for a December 1 article recovering roughly $400,000 in federal E-rate funds the district fronted for a summer network upgrade.
Member Bill Cullum pressed staff on transportation savings, learning the district saves nearly $1 million a year running its own bus fleet versus contracting out. Enrollment fell to 1,434 students as of October 1, down 28 from last year. The committee held off voting on its FY28 capital plan, which includes $300,000 for two buses and an eventual $1.6 million turf-field replacement.
