Carver ZBA Approves Oversized Garage With Special Permit and Rear Setback Variance
CARVER — January 29, 2026 — Carver Zoning Board unanimously approves oversized garage with combined special permit and variance at Wynnum Shores Drive. The board granted Ronald Menard of 2 Wynnum Shores Drive permission to build a 1,406-square-foot detached garage — double the 700 square feet allowed as of right — along with a 19-foot rear setback variance tied to septic and leaching field constraints on the lot. Chair Arthur Crosby called the combination of a special permit and a variance in a single petition unusual, noting "when someone comes in, it's usually a special permit or a variance or two, not both." The decision, continued from a December 16 hearing at which the board found the original submission too thin, followed three rounds of revised plot plans that sought but ultimately could not achieve a smaller variance. Newly elected Vice Chair Jim Barrington, chosen at the same meeting to fill the seat vacated when the prior vice chair left the area, participated in all votes. A written decision is expected to be filed with the Town Clerk early the week of February 2, starting a 20-day appeal window under MGL Chapter 40A Section 17.
