Zoning board continues ADU case, debates garage cap
Zoning Board · Meeting of September 3, 2026
Carver Zoning Board of Appeals continues a Pond Street ADU appeal and tables a garage-size bylaw rewrite. The board unanimously voted to hold a site visit at 9 a.m. September 26 and continue petitioner Paul Topham's appeal of a denied accessory dwelling unit permit to a 6:30 p.m. hearing September 30, after directing his attorney to submit written questions to town counsel.
Member Mark Poirier presented a draft amendment raising the town's 700-square-foot garage limit, floating a range of 900 to 1,400 square feet; he said he "wasn't sure myself what seemed like a reasonable number to bump up to." Members discussed figures including a 32-by-32-foot, 1,024-square-foot structure and whether finished second-floor space should count toward the cap, but took no vote, tabling the item for a future meeting. Any change would require Planning Board review, Town Meeting approval, and Attorney General sign-off.
