Carver School Committee Votes to Reinstate End-of-Season Athletic Surveys

CARVER — November 17, 2025 — Carver School Committee reinstates athletic surveys and accepts $34,403 scholarship gift. The committee voted unanimously Monday to recommend that Superintendent Scott Griffin reinstate end-of-season surveys for student athletes and families, a practice discontinued by Athletic Director Kelsey when she joined the district and replaced with senior-only exit interviews. Multiple members cited constituent pressure over the preceding weekend and concern that junior-varsity and younger athletes lacked any feedback channel; Griffin relayed the athletic director's concern that surveys could substitute for direct communication with coaches, but said she would develop the instrument for winter sports. The committee also accepted a $34,403.76 donation from the Bradford Cole Family Trust to the school's scholarship program, approved the FY27 Capital Improvement Plan — which includes chromebook replacement, a new 71-passenger bus, and elementary playground expansion — and adopted two graduation policies on second reading, including a new competency determination policy required after last November's state vote removing MCAS as a graduation benchmark. Griffin noted that as of October 1, 2025, 264 Carver students, or 15.3 percent of the school-age population, are enrolled outside the district, and estimated that Old Colony's planned expansion — subject to a town vote the following day — would raise Carver's long-term enrollment there from roughly 25 students per year to 30 to 35.
