Carver panel approves Agri Realty sand mine permit, 4-1

Carver Earth Removal Committee approves 415,000-cubic-yard sand mine, bars trucks from Mayflower Road. The board voted 4-1 to permit Agri Realty LLC's excavation at 0 Mayflower Road, with attorney Craig Medeiros telling members "we do agree with the conditions that were proposed by the Board at the last hearing" after the project's volume was revised down from 430,000 cubic yards. The permit sets a $265,000 performance bond, a $25,000 well-damage escrow, a 50-truck-round-trip daily cap and quarterly groundwater monitoring shared with the Conservation Commission.
Resident Mark Yager said he was "stunned" no one from Carver, Mayflower or Tremont had spoken in favor of the project. Community Land and Water Coalition representatives raised concerns about Dunham Pond water withdrawal and airborne silica dust. In routine business, the committee also approved $8,896.35 in paving and guardrail invoices 6-0 and set aside $60,000 for town-wide line painting.
