Carver Finance Committee Approves Three $1,666 Grants to Nonprofit Service Providers

CARVER — June 9, 2025 — Carver Finance Committee approves three scaled-back grants totaling roughly $5,000 for nonprofit health and legal aid providers. The committee voted unanimously at its June 9 meeting to award $1,666 each to Health Imperatives, South Shore VNA, and South Coastal County Legal Services — down from a prior per-grant level of $5,000 — after the committee's grant budget was significantly reduced during a leadership transition. Health Imperatives reported serving 180 Carver residents last year, including 133 through its WIC program, and cited a 14 percent year-over-year increase in local caseload. South Shore VNA, the state's largest Medicare- and Medicaid-certified home health agency, highlighted a new in-home outpatient therapy service available to any Carver resident without a homebound requirement. South Coastal County Legal Services, which provides civil legal aid to residents at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level and to all residents 60 and older, told the committee it serves 12 to 15 Carver residents annually at an average attorney cost of $250 per hour. The committee meets next on June 25 to hear a year-end financial update and consider at least one sizeable reserve fund request ahead of the fiscal year close.
