Carver Planning Board Signals MBTA Zoning Vote Will Be Indefinitely Postponed Tuesday

CARVER — October 6, 2025 — Carver Planning Board votes to continue MBTA zoning public hearing as map errors derail Special Town Meeting vote. The board voted unanimously Monday to carry its public hearing on the MBTA Communities Law zoning article to October 7 at 5:30 p.m. at Carver Middle High School, signaling that the article would most likely be indefinitely postponed at that night's Special Town Meeting rather than brought to a vote. Chair Mary Lynn Williams told the board that Town Counsel had confirmed no parcels beyond West Street could be added to the warrant at this stage, but that the map formally attached to the warrant — showing the entire parcel without sub-districts — no longer matched the board's revised proposal, which calls for a 235-unit cap, 15.7 acres, 100-foot buffers, and a divided housing and open space sub-district layout. "As of right now, it's something if we moved forward with it, it isn't what we wanted to present to the town," Williams said. Member Kevin Robinson stated the board was "very adamant" that 235 units was an absolute ceiling, not a target. Resident Donna Boran called the situation "a complete disaster," while resident Paul Owen warned that voters would not accept a simple claim of unreadiness.
